This is part of our This Week at the Beach series, where we show you how awesome the beach looks, usually on a weekly basis.

This week has been downright cold, but this weekend should be great, warm, and sunny.  Don’t forget the awesome events we have this weekend, including the Christmas Parade in Pier Park.

We’ve been asking around and you’ve told us that you want the weekly beach update videos back.  So, we decided to add a little spice to it.  This week, we’re showing you amazing shots of the beach, with John Black’s FreedomFlightCenter.com ‘s Powered Paragliders coasting through the air.  Next week, we’re going on a ride on one.

Powered Paragliding is a form of ultralight aviation in which the pilot wears a motor on their back that provides forward thrust.  This thrust is enough to get them fast enough to provide lift using a paraglider wing – speeds range from 5 to 45 mph, depending on motor size and wind conditions. The paramotor usually weighs between 50 and 80 pounds and is supported by the pilot during takeoff, but is then supported by the wing during flight.  The pilot sits in a seat that is attached to the entire rig.

This is going to be an amazing weekend with the Panama City Beach Seafood Wine and Music Festival.  Great bands, great weather, some cool events.  If you’re not coming down here, it’s not too late to make it.  If you don’t, you’re missing out!

The roar of motorcycles, Thunder Beach is in the air, along with sweet tunes, warm air and covered by blue skies.  This couldn’t be a better weekend to get out to the beach and sift your toes through the sand.  Be sure to keep an eye on some of the other events we have around the area this weekend too!

This weekend should be amazing for visiting the beach.  If you’re planning a trip down here, you’re in for a real treat.  Along with great weather, there are tons of great events to keep you and your family occupied should you get bored of the beach (yea, right).

The weather for Panama City Beach this weekend is expected to be amazing!  The water is clear, warm and the beaches are white as always.

Anglers all over the Panama City Beach and Destin area are baffled at the recent wave of sailfish being caught in close proximity to our white sandy shoreline.  Talking to Brad Stephens from Sunjammers, he was telling me that nobody has ever known sailfish of any kind to be so close to shore.  “They’ve been hitting 4 and 5 a day out at the new pier,” Stephens said on the phone earlier.

Brad owns Sunjammers, a kayak store on Highway 79 in Panama City Beach.  I had lunch with him today and upon checking out his web site when I got back to the office, I found videos of kayakers catching sailfish with condos in the backdrop.  I immediately had to give him a call back and ask about it.

Not sure why all of a sudden so many sailfish were playing so close to shore, Brad explained that some of the kayakers that have landed these beautiful fish are on his fishing team Team Sunjammers.  Trolling Ballyhoo behind their kayak just a couple thousand feet off shore, anglers have attracted small sailfish that often end up giving them quite a ride in their little boat.  I say small, but they are really quite large, especially for fishing from a 13 foot kayak: the one in the video below was probably around 7 feet and weighed around 70 lbs.

This brings up an interesting topic, fishing in Panama City Beach.  I’ve been told this is one of the best places to go, and frankly, this is something I have no experience in.  So, upon asking, Brad consented to take me on a two part fishing adventure: first, to explore the protected waterways and familiarize myself with the gear; and second, go into the Gulf of Mexico and troll for King Mackerel.  Our adventure is planned to start one week from tomorrow.  Thanks Brad!
