Churchwell Road CRA Update and Pictures

by April 5, 2008 • 3 comments

The Churchwell Road CRA (Community Redevelopment Area) is pretty much done. They were painting the yellow stripes last week and painting the 127 space public parking lot yesterday. The ribbon cutting is on April 16, 2008 at 10:30 am on the new Churchwell Bridge, unless it rains, in which case it will be under a tent in the new parking lot close to Front Beach Road. More after the break.

Construction began in April 2007 and is slated to be the shortest of all redevelopment projects. I think the original build time was to be around 15 months, so they are a little ahead of schedule. Project details include:

  • Widen existing roadway
  • Relocate the overhead utilities underground
  • Build a parking area for the nearby beach access point – 127 spaces
  • Build sidewalks and bike lanes
  • Replace old bridge (paid for by FDOT)
  • Landscaping

The other CRA project currently under development is the Beckrich Road redevelopment. I’ll have more info that in a couple of weeks.

Wow, this is great news and very needed. Does anyone know if a traffic light will be placed at the intersection of Front Beach Road and when the public access park/walkway will be completed next to Ocean Villa to allow beach access from the public parking area. This is good for PCB.

Why build a huge parking lot when there is NO public beach access anywhere nearby??? Shortsighted, again.

wow, i wish i had a picture from in the middle of front beach road looking west toward churchwell. i would really like to see how the new road improvements looks as it touches front beach road. perhaps standing on the ocean villa bridge and taking a picture westward!! that would be great.

any word on the traffic light too?
