The kids aren’t back in school yet, seasonal events are still happening all across town – but summer is slowly drawing to a close, although you wouldn’t know it from the still blistering temperatures outside! This is the time of year when we start looking forward to cooler weather and all the great things that come with fall in Panama City Beach. Autumn festivals have always been one of the best reasons to visit and celebrate our destination once the summer season is over, and this year will be no different. Here are 5 of the top fall festivals we can look forward to in the upcoming months.

September 16th to 19th 2010 – The 21st Annual Lobster Festival & Tournament at Schooner’s.

One of our favorites, the annual Schooner’s Lobsterfest is a great event for locals and visitors alike. Benefitting Toys for Kids Foundation and Florida Aquatic Marine Institute, this fun festival gives you a chance to see huge local lobster weigh-ins, sample mouth-watering lobster prepared every way imaginable, and marvel at the spectacular sand sculptures entered in this year’s contest.

Venues include Laketown Wharf, Bay Point Marriott Resort, Shoppes at Edgewater, Club La Vela, Pier Park, Frank Brown Park, Sharkey’s Restaurant and Pineapple Willy’s Restaurant.

October 1st to October 2nd 2010 – Oktoberfest

Every October, historic downtown Panama City transforms into a lively German-style village for the annual Oktoberfest. This Bavarian celebration is fun for everyone, with accordion players, carnival rides, face-painting, clowns, sausage eating contests and lots of great food! Oktoberfest offers plenty to keep kids entertained while the adults can enjoy an excellent selection of beers.

October 8th to October 10th 2010 – Panama City Beach Seafood, Wine & Music Festival

This year, visitors to the festival can expect more mouthwatering seafood, over 75 retail, antique and art vendors, local and international wines, crafts and activities, plus of course live HEADLINER music! This year’s acts are as follows:

Friday, October 8th 2010 – Lorrie Morgan with special guests the Bellamy Brothers (country)

Saturday, October 9th 2010 – REO Speedwagon (classic rock)

Sunday, October 10th 2010 – Little River Band (rock/contemporary)

There will be food, beverage and festival concessions on site, and an exciting variety of jazz musicians performing all weekend long. The festival is free and open to the public.
