FSU Flying Circus on Panama City Beach – Update

by June 4, 2008 • 0 comments

The tent is up, the a/c is cranking and the stage is being set for performances to begin next Friday, June 13th at 7pm.

The tent consists of 10 pieces with a total weight of over 10,000 lbs. Each one of six “straights” weight around 900 lbs and each of the four “rounds” weight around 1200 lbs. The “straights” are the middle peices and the “rounds” are the ends.

The tent itself is held up by an assembly of 45 foot posts that are held secure with steel ties and huge stakes at the base.

Each performer is a student with the circus being an extracurricular activity, like playing in the band or playing football. The circus is unique, however, in that it provides the students a way to make some income over the summer.

They will be doing rehearsals this week in preparation for the show beginning next week.
