SAVINGS ROLL IN:
Panama City Beach Extends ‘White Sale’ For Fall,
Offers Discounts From 50 Travel Partners

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (August 21, 2008) – You can still catch the wave of savings at one of America’s top beaches — Panama City Beach, Fla. This award-winning destination on the Gulf of Mexico extends its Summer White Sale, offering deep discounts on weekend getaways and vacations well into the fall.

The Panama City Beach White Sale joins more than 50 local accommodations, restaurants and attractions. They team up to present more than 80 different discount offers with a total value exceeding $6,000. Offers are valid now through Sept. 30. More local businesses can join in for additional savings to roll in throughout September.

To get on board, travelers go to www.pcbwhitesale.com and download coupons for such deals as $50 – $200 gasoline giveaways, up to 25 percent off room rates, $20 off a parasail ride and more.

“Our Summer White Sale generated such an outpouring of interest that we decided to continue it an additional month,” explains Dan Rowe, president and CEO of the Panama City Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Despite national concerns about the sluggish economy and gasoline prices nearing historic highs, Panama City Beach bed tax collections were up 1.8 percent, (May – June 2008) over the same period last year, Rowe says.

The Panama City Beach White Sale began in early May. As of Aug. 14, the campaign had generated 72,982 unique visits to its Web site and downloads of 20,855 coupons, according to Rowe. He adds that traffic to the Convention & Visitors’ Bureau Web site for June was at a record high.

“Early autumn is a wonderful time in Panama City Beach for couples and families,” Rowe notes. “The beaches are less crowded, the water is still perfect for swimming, and the weather remains sunny and warm.”

Awash in savings, Panama City Beach invites travelers to customize their visit with a wide range of offerings. This fall, the destination beckons with emerald-green waters, sugar-white sand and a White Sale like no other. Offers include:

Save on Accommodations

  • Gasoline credits are available at 12 properties. Panama City Beach makes the drive worthwhile, with fuel rebates ranging from $50 for a three-night stay to $200 for a vacation of seven nights or more at leading properties.
  • Many beachfront properties are reducing nightly rates by as much as 25%.
  • Others offer free nights. For a long weekend, why not stay three and get one free?
  • Travel with family and friends. You can save hundreds of dollars at leading beachfront resorts and condominiums. They provide plenty of space and convenience in units with private balconies, fully equipped kitchens and one – four bedrooms.
  • Military personnel, the police and firefighters get extra discounts.

Sizzling Savings For Romantic Getaways

  • The crowds are gone, and the time is right for a romantic getaway at beach accommodations promising free meals for two and complimentary cocktails.
  • Restaurants sweeten the deal still more, cutting food and beverage prices on all meals and providing free appetizers. Wine lovers take note: You can get 25% off regularly priced wine at a Panama City Beach landmark restaurant.

Do More, Save More

  • Free amenities packages increase the savings on: parasailing, rounds of golf, half-day fishing trips, dinner and dolphin-watch cruises, airboat adventures, banana boat rides, family attraction passes, miniature golf, go-cart tickets, and more.
  • If you’re itching for summer fun, one of Florida’s largest theme parks offers a scratch-off game. Everybody wins, with savings of $1.00 – $5.00 per person and a grand prize of free admission.
  • Kids-eat-free offers are available at popular restaurants and eateries.

In Tune With The Times

In a survey just released by the Travel Industry Association and marketing firm Ypartnership, Americans intent to travel showed its second consecutive quarterly decline in July, dropping to 78.3 from 82.4 in April 2008. The closely watched travelhorizonsÔ survey
suggested that future trips are likely to entail shorter stays and reduced spending in destinations closer to home.

The nationally representative travelhorizonsÔ surveyed 2,231 adults online during the month of July 2008. This quarter’s decline was due primarily to significant decreases in the perceived “affordability of travel” and “money available for travel.” Specifically, the survey found:

  • More than half (52%) of respondents cited gasoline prices as the reason for not traveling
  • Two in five (40.9%) agreed “travel in general is too expensive.”
  • The percentage of respondents mentioning the high cost of airfares rose to 30.9 in
  • July, up from 23.6% in April.

More For Less

“The extended Panama City Beach White Sale will help consumers make the most of their travel dollars,” Rowe explains.

While prices here are down, the destination has never offered more, he adds. Travelers rejuvenate at new spas, and sail the calm Gulf waters on a romantic sunset cruise. The new, one-million-square-foot Pier Park in the heart of town presents plenty of options for shopping, dining and entertainment. Savor fresh seafood and cool ocean breezes dining al fresco at one of the destination’s award-winning restaurants. Anglers won’t go away empty-handed in this world-premier sport fishing destination, where the waters teem with blue and white marlin, tuna, sailfish, trout, ladyfish, grouper and more. For golfers, predictably sunny skies provide a wealth of opportunities for play at five championship courses.
