As a consumer, it seems prices only ever go up fast (and come down slowly), but I’m
sure that there are good reasons for this (at least I hope there are).
There is also another body, the International Lubricant Standardization and Approval Committee (ILSAC), jointly set-up
by US and Japanese motor manufacturers, which also recommends motor oil grades which
comply with the API standard. Ground water that is contaminated by only one quart of oil affects
up to 250,000 gallons of drinking water.
